What is Chiropractic?
It is a system of healthcare concerning the examination and treatment of the spine. The spine is made up of 24 moveable bones called vertebra, in addition to the sacrum and coccyx bones, which protect the spinal cord as well as the nerves exiting the spinal cord. Whenever these vertebra become misaligned, they can cause, pain and stress to the body in many different ways. During the examination process, the chiropractic physician will check for these misalignments of the spine, which are called VERTEBRAL SUBLUXATIONS. Vertebral subluxations not only cause pain in the body, but they can cause lowered immunity and resistance to disease, which can in turn gradually cause more health issues later down the road. This is why it is important to get checked out immediately by your local chiropractic physician. Chiropractors are the only licensed physicians with the extensive amount of training in treating subluxations. In fact doctors of chiropractic have more hours of training in Anatomy, Diagnosis, Neurology, Orthopedics and Radiology, than their medical colleagues. However, a good and responsible chiropractor will utilize and consult with their medical colleagues if a need should arise, because within the medical community there are many new and innovative treatments and procedures that are being used to help patients, as well as excellent physicians who are knowledgeable in their field. So when you come into see your chiropractor, know that you are getting a knowledgeable and responsible professional, who is up to date on the latest treatment procedures in spinal injuries. Be sure you do your research and know about who are choosing to be your chiropractor.
How do I get Subluxations?
Subluxations are usually caused by physical traumas, for example accidents, auto and sports injuries, falls, work injuries, bad posture, and even sleeping wrong at night can all cause subluxations. However other things can affect the body, causing subluxations, such as chemical stress caused by foods and medications that we put into our bodies, as well as mental and emotional stress that we all have to deal with from time to time. It is always best for the individual to go and get checked out for spinal subluxations before pain or stress begins to set in. If you do feel that you have an area of concern and you have noticed that you just don't feel like you used to, you could be dealing with spinal subluxations.
Correcting Vertebral Subluxations
In order to correct a subluxation, the patient has to get checked out first by the doctor of chiropractic to see if they even have a subluxation. A lot of times subluxations are undetectable by the patient, they really won't know if they possibly have one or not, unless they are dealing with some sort of pain in their body. It is the doctor of chiropractic that will locate specifically where the subluxation is and will treat it with a chiropractic adjustment. The chiropractic adjustment is simply just taking the vertebra and moving it back into proper alignment to take pressure off the nerve. Once the adjustment is performed the flow of nerve impulses from the brain and spinal cord to the significant parts of your body is balanced and running smoother. This means less stress, pain, and a more overall sense of well being. Patients generally state that they feel much better even after just a few visits. They notice less pain and stress at work, they can play sports or enjoy recreational activities with less pain, and they feel like they just have an overall sense wellbeing and peace about them. However each patient can react differently to an adjustment, sometimes an adjustment can be uncomfortable at first but very enjoyable later on as the patient gets used to the treatment. It can sometimes take a little time for the patient to adapt to the changes that are being made in their body, but with time and endurance it will be well worth it when the treatment is complete and the patient is feeling significantly better.
