Dr. Thompson's Biography
Dr. Thompson is originally from New York and moved to North Carolina, which she now considers her home, over thirty years ago. After becoming as Registered Nurse, she received her undergraduate degree from UNC in Asheville, graduating with Highest Distinctions in Biology and Magna Cum Lauda. In 1991 Dr. Thompson graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill School of Medicine with Honors and stayed in Chapel Hill to complete her residency in Diagnostic Radiology. Afterwards, she underwent subspecialty training in Neuroradiology and worked as a Clinical Instructor at the School of Medicine in Chapel Hill, receiving several prestigious awards for research and excellency in her field and obtaining a Certificate of Added Qualifications in Neuroradiology.

She also published extensively in medical journals and wrote multiple book chapters, as well as giving numerous talks at national meetings. Joining a large practice in North Carolina, Dr. Thompson continued to instruct other physicians, both locally and country-wide in the performance of neurological procedures. She functioned as the department chairman for several years and was very involved in both the group practice and the hospital, as the senior neuro partner until 2006.

Since that time, Dr. Thompson has continued to bring excellence to the field of medicine, teaching other physicians, and performing cutting edge procedures, always attempting to improve patient's lifestyles and diminish their pain and disability.

Currently she practices in Charlotte and Gastonia, treating patients for unrelenting spinal pain, headaches, and/or other neurological processes, either due to trauma or as a component of degenerative or developmental disease. Many minimally invasive procedures are performed in the therapeutic suite, while others can be performed in a more formal setting. Dr. Thompson enjoys working with patients and together they can arrive at a plan that is individualized and best suited for each patient.
